Trekking in partial self-sufficiency in the forests of central Finland. Discover Koli National Park.

A total immersion in the enchanted and wild atmospheres in the area of the thousand lakes in of central Finland. An unforgettable trekking on the thru hike style but with the possibility to use also some structures that offers accommodation and services. The destination is Koli National Park in North Karelia.

PROGRAM:

Tuesday 02 June 2020:
Meeting at Joensuu train station. Once the group is reunited we will move in the direction of Kiviniemi where we will spend the night and from where, on the following day, we will start our trekking.

Wednesday 03 June 2020:
From Kiviniemi we will start our hiking day and arrive in Suopelto in the southern part of the National Park. We will be going through camp fire places along the lake shore where we can take a break and roast some sausages on the fire.

ELEVATION GAIN: +200m
DIFFICULTY: MEDIUM
TIME: 7 Hours

Thursday 04 June 2020:
From Suopelto we will go up the eastern shore of Heräjärvi until we reach Lakkala. Hiking through a magic land of lakes and forest.

LENGHT: about 11Km
ELEVATION GAIN: +150m
DIFFICULTY: EASY
TIME: 5 Hours

Friday 05 June 2020:
From Lakkala, we will walk the eastern shore of the north part of Heräjärvi until we reach the center called Ukko Koli, the highest point of the National Park from which we will be able to enjoy the view that has inspired so many painters and poets of Scandinavian culture.

ELEVATION GAIN: +350m
DIFFICULTY: MEDIUM
TIME: 7 Hours

Saturday 06 June 2020:
After spending the night near Ukko Koli, we will start our descent, by public transport, towards Joensuu.

Sunday 07 June 2020:
A free day in Helsinki, the capital of Finland.


EQUIPMENT:

•Backpack

• Comfortable long pants for 4 days walking, change of clothes  

• Hiking poles, if you are get use to use them.

• Waterproof windproof jacket

• Sun glasses, hat or similar, sun lotion

• Tent and sleeping bag

  • Round trip from the meeting point

  • Water bottles
