The great North in an unforgettable trekking. 

Lapland is the place that evokes a wild condition more than any other. The high lands of the Scandinavian peninsula a territory characterized, in his Finnish part, by the rounded reliefs that here are known as “Tunturi”. With this trekking, through Pallas and Ounastunturi National Park, we will hike in a unique magic land enjoying the panoramas upon the Sami land.

PROGRAM:

Monday 20 July 2020:
Meeting at Muonio bus station (To reach Muonio you must take into account a day of travel whether you fly directly to Kittila or land in Oulu and take the bus to Muonio). Once the group has gathered we will move towards the area of Jeris Järvi where we will spend the night and from where, on the following day, we will start our trekking.

Tuesday 21 July 2020:
The first day of trekking will lead us through open forests of pines and spruce, which create a forest easy to walk through. The further north you go, the more conifers give way to dwarf birches. From Jeris Järvi, a beatifull lake, we will head towards Torassieppi and than in the direction of Pallas Tunturi and the mountain hut which will support us for the night.

Wednesday 22 July 2020:
From Mantyrova we will continue in the direction of Pallas visit center and we will begin the long path that will lead us to ride the arctic fells (Tunturi) of the National Park. Our destination for today will be the mountain hut of Nammalakuru. The day reserves a spectacular panorama and most of the time a 360 degrees view over the territory of this remote part of Finland. The day is certainly more demanding than the first day but also extremely rewarding. (Tunturi) del parco naturale . La nostra destinazione per oggi sarà la mountain hut di Nammalakuru. Thursday 23 July 2020:
This morning we will wake up in the middle of the Sami wild territory and continue on our way for another special day. We could meet reindeer, partridges and expanses of wild blueberries on the path that will take us to the mountain hut of Hannukuru. Like the other evenings there will be the possibility of using or not the free shelter or to use the material we are carrying on our shoulders and fully experience the spirit of a thru hike.

DIFFICULTY: MEDIUM
TIME: 6 Hours

Friday 24 July 2020:
Also for today we will continue our journey along the ridge of Pallastunturi National park and we will walk along the second group of Tunturi called Ounastunturi. From Hannukuru we will reach Sioskuru. 

LENGHT: about 13Km
ELEVATION GAIN: +550m
DIFFICULTY: MEDIUM
TIME: 7 Hours

Saturday 25 July 2020:
Last part of this trekking into the wild, from Sioskuru to Hetta. A gentle undulating descent that will take us to the northern most part of the National Park and we will reach the village of Hetta, after crossing the river called Ounasjarvi or Ovvnesjarvi in Sami language. From here, by bus, we will return to Muonio.

DIFFICULTY: EASY
TIME: 6 Hours

Sunday 26 July 2020:
It is time to return and leave the lands in the great North of Scandinavia. From Muonio we will head to the nearest airport Kittila or Oulu, by bus. Landscapes and panoramas of the great North will always be with us, the colors and the wild animals encountered. The silent spaces that regenerate body and soul. What a trekking!

EQUIPMENT:

  • Backpack

  • Comfortable clothes suitable for a 5-day trek, changes and clothes for when we are not walking

  • Hiking poles, if you are used to using them and you benefit from them

  • Windproof or waterproof garment, in case of rain

  • Sunglasses, hat or similar and sunscreen

  • Tent, sleeping bag and mattress

  • Head lamp

  • Head net is recommended to protect yourself from insects

  • Warm clothing and thermal layers

  • Water bottles

  • Required for cooking on the campsite

  • Nature Interpretive Guide

FEE DOES NOT INCLUDE:

  • Round trip from the meeting point

  • Costs for travel to and from the meeting point at the start of the trek

  • Costs for possible accommodation and additional services (overnight in mountain hut, bars, restaurants, sauna, etc.)

  • Packed lunches for the trekking days

  • Anything not mentioned under "The fee includes".
